About Us

AbleCloset is a 501c3 non-profit organization that was founded in 2009 by the parent of a child with special needs, her child’s Physical Therapist, and the therapist’s husband, with the vision of providing children with special needs a resource for borrowing adaptive equipment. It started in the parent’s garage and quickly out grew the space.

Obtaining rehabilitative equipment can be costly and time consuming. AbleCloset provides a place for families to browse and then borrow from our “library” of equipment. We accept donations of equipment that children may have outgrown or no longer need, so we can lend them out to families with children that could greatly benefit from their use. Our ultimate goal is the core of our mission… to provide children who have special needs with the equipment they need to reach their maximum potential.

In April 2023, the original co-founders of AbleCloset transitioned the program to the Medical Equipment Lending Program (MELP) of the
Belmont Rotary Club, the San Carlos Rotary Club and the Villages of San Mateo County. These organizations have combined forces to ensure that AbleCloset can continue to provide this amazing service for years to come.
