FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you still have a location in Santa Clara or Diamond Springs?
We are no longer located in Santa Clara or Diamond Springs. Our only warehouse is located at 1063 E San Carlos Avenue in San Carlos, CA.

How do I Donate Equipment?
Equipment must be in good condition with no missing parts.  We accept the following items if they are in good condition: wheelchairs, KidWalks, Rifton pacers, Freedom adapted bikes and Convaid strollers.  If you are unsure whether we will accept your donated equipment, please send us a picture at info@AbleCloset.com for confirmation. We never accept the following items: hospital beds, custom-fit braces, power wheelchairs, damaged equipment.

Do I qualify to borrow equipment?
AbleCloset is a “loaner” program, designed to provide equipment for children that are unable to obtain the needed equipment through other means or to be used while waiting for their equipment to be approved. It is not intended to be a family’s first and only resource for long term equipment needs. Any family with a special needs child, regardless of income level, may borrow appropriate equipment as long as they agree to our terms and conditions. AbleCloset reserves the right to refuse equipment loans.

How long can I keep the equipment?
We offer a 6 month limit equipment loan for most items.  Specialty equipment may have time limits of 2 weeks to 2 months.  This is typically the case for beach wheelchairs, bikes and KidWalks.

How many pieces of equipment can I borrow?
A family can borrow two pieces of equipment at one time.

Where and when can I pick up the equipment?
Pick-ups are in San Carlos, CA at 1063 E San Carlos Avenue in San Carlos, CA.  We open on Saturdays from 12pm-2pm starting on May 13, 2023.

Is there a fee to borrow equipment?
AbleCloset is a non-profit organization that runs solely upon the donations of individuals. We are 100% volunteer-run.  While we have a “suggested donation” of $25 per piece of equipment, this fee is not required. Any monetary donation helps cover our operating costs. Make your donation today.

How can I ensure this equipment is right for my child?
The family must have a therapist available to check the safety and sizing of the equipment as AbleCloset is unable to provide these services.

Can our therapist pick up the equipment for us?
Yes.  A therapist or family member may pick up the equipment.  However, the parent or legal guardian must complete a signed release of liability form that can be submitted prior or at the pick-up time.

Is there any required paperwork?
Yes. Loaning of the equipment is contingent upon the family completing the release of liability agreement.

If I don’t have a credit card, can I still borrow equipment?
The credit card is only used as a security deposit. If you do not have a credit card, please contact us to make other arrangements.
